Walking Works

Seems like there's a bit of spring fever in the air.  After snowy and cold Cache Valley winter, the warmth of spring feels incredible.  And there really isn't any better way to feel the sun on your skin and take in the grandeur of spring than by a walk on a local trail. And this month, there's even more rewards for walking than usual.  The Bear River Health Department, Logan Regional Hospital, Post Consumer Brands and Screibers are sponsorring  a walking works challenge for the month of May. You can learn more and sign up for the challenge here. Sign up to log your steps, and get a chance to win some of the $1000 in prizes to be given away throughout the month of May. You can join your community or employer's team to engage in some friendly competition as you track your steps for the month.

Along with your own steps, you can take a chance to walk with civic leaders, in Logan, or in Hyrum.  In Logan, there will be a walk with Mayor Craig Petersen at 12:00pm, Friday May 20 at the west entrance of the Logan City Library. Down in Hyrum, you can meet with Mayor Stephanie Miller - she will be leading a walk on Saturday May 21st at the Salt Hollow Park Trail, located at 350 West 200 South in Hyrum, at 9am.

And from this author's point of view, the best way to get some long walks in is look at a regular trip you take - if it's under 2 miles to school, work, or shopping, try walking there.  2 miles takes about 30 - 45 minutes to walk, and there's no better relaxing me-time than a walk on some quiet streets or beautiful trails.
